"Mein Fuhrer, I regret to tell you that someone has started yet another thread about RIDDOR on the IOSH Discussion Forum." ("Hitler") ".....why are those safety people so obsessed with RIDDOR and have so many problems with it?" "Mein Fuhrer, it could be because RIDDOR was badly drafted by the HSE" "Or more likely that the sicherheitsvolk get too bogged down trying to interpret RIDDOR and just can't make decisions." (further dialogue to be continued by anyone else who cares to do so - but don't use any swear words as this would breach forum rules!) Those of you who are already familiar with 'YouTube' HitlerRantParodies might appreciate the above scenario. Believe it or not, I only stumbled across the parodies while doing an internet search last week. For the benefit of the unacquainted, the parodies comprise short clips with video imagery from the 2004 film "Downfall" (about Adolf Hitler and his final days in the Berlin bunker in 1945) to which subtitles have been added to create humorous dialogues about a wide range of topics. These include for example UK football clubs, politicians, someone called Justin Bieber and also a scenario in which Hitler (convincingly played by actor Bruno Ganz) is annoyed that the pizza he ordered still hasn't been delivered. After watching some of the parodies, I wondered if any new ones could be devised about OSH-related topics. RIDDOR promptly sprang to mind in view of the vast number of threads and responses about it on this forum. Some of the parodies, or parts of them, are amusing and others are not, but that simply reflects my personal opinion and preferences as someone who relishes TV comedies like "Mock the Week" and "Monty Python's Flying Circus". Also, for anyone thinking of looking at the parodies, be warned that they contain strong language partly to match the desperate facial expressions and body language which are displayed. Furthermore, in view of the despicable actions and creed of the Nazis, it's understandable if some people find no humour in parodies of clips depicting Hitler and his leaders. Can forum readers suggest other OSH topics which might be suitable for a HitlerRantParody? Also, are there other films or TV news clips, etc., from which video extracts could be used likewise for OSH-related scenarios, whether for amusement and/or training purposes? Finally, for now - and on a serious note, why does RIDDOR lead to so many threads and responses on this forum?!!!!

One of the most powerful films ever made. The parodies are amusing, but I commend the film to you for its own sake.

After compiling the original post earlier today, some of my brain cells of late-fiftysomething vintage remained sufficiently active to think of two possible OSH-related scenarios: 1) Hitler strongly reacts to being told that an officer of the Berlin Fire Brigade has inspected his bunker and complained that no fire risk assessment is available. The officer suspects that nobody has done such an assessment and therefore will return soon, irrespective of any Russian bombardment, to take appropriate enforcement action. This could include a sudden and total ban on any further use of the bunker! 2) Hitler is told that an invoice has just been received from HSE requesting payment of fees for intervention (FFI). The ensuing rant includes questions about what shortcomings an HSE inspector found on his recent visit, and did any of them really come within the definition of 'material breaches'.

If you could make one of these parody`s then maybe you could go down in folk law :-)

One of the funniest HitlerRantParodies in my opinion is "Hitler reacts to bad grammar", partly because it reminds me of some postings on this forum. To spare others from the effort of looking for it (or seeing its strong language), the parody touches on the fact that many younger people use abbreviations like LOL, and how some people are confused about: i) their, there and they're ii) to, too and two iii) lets and let's iv) its and it's v) your and you're. The Hitler character also berates his audience for being ineffectual 'Grammar Nazis'. Sadly he omitted to rant about those who write 'could of' instead of 'could've' (the contracted/shortened version of 'could have' ), or use capital letters when they're inappropriate and don't use them where needed. However, in order to fend off accusations of being a pedant or even a Grammar Nazi, I should emphasise that my comments about postings with bad grammar on this forum are not intended as criticisms of anyone in particular. Such postings don't personally affect me. However, on a serious point, if OS&H practitioners who post them display the same poor understanding of grammar in their other writings, e.g. important communications to senior managers or general guidance to employees, does this diminish how others people perceive them as professionals?

Jokes about Hitler & Nazis are not universally well received and can serve to diminish perceptions of professionalism.
