All, Confused over best way to secure to forks and not finding the HSE document much help. Current cage has a screw mechanism under each fork and a heel pin and chain. Is this OK? My feeling is that the screws would not be considered positive locking. My previous cage had a mechanism that locked the cage onto the forks at the heel as soon as it was engaged or raised.

Your Dizzy Staff thread was funnier. You will have to try harder to get replies. This one doesn't even make sense

Makes perfect sense to me. I long while ago I remember having similar concerns We added a cargo ratchet strap between the cage and the mast for belt & braces solution Admittedly it was not ideal

Heelpin with a locking device should suffice, inspect before and after use. Check that the gate is locked when the cage is lifted off the ground. As long as its designed and maintained properly should give years of service. Rgds, S

Hi Heel pins that lock in place are a normal way to secure the cage. However, as you will need a LOLER inspection on this kit, why not ask the inspector their opinion? Ian

Just weld it to the forks and that should secure it well enough. Just make sure you have a competent inspector who is able to check the weld so it complies with legislation.

Firstly - Cheifinspector: Are you serious?. Secondly a FLT man gage should only be used as a last resort and unplanned maintenance. You should use a MEWP for sending a man to work at heights. If it is the last resort then the FLT controls for side shift and tilt must be disabled. I know this does not answer you query on the attachement but I think you should be aware of the other issues.

Serious ...suspect not. However after a suitably coded welder, working to an approved WPS finished welding the cage to the forks they could maybe weld the control levers in place to take care of the side shift and tilt issues.
