We have been experimenting with new ways of communicating and trying to reduce e-mail. One suggestion that has caused me some problems is the use of remote control cars to ferry messages across the open plan offices. These are an obvious trip hazard and some people are using them to collect drinks from the canteen. Has anyone experienced this problem and have some tips to share? Someone has suggested those little remote control helicopters. I fear the worst as usual.

Hi Martin This is indeed a common problem that many offices face every day. The best controls I have seen involve the use of traffic light systems and licences for the operators. The helicopters are an alternative but tend to play havoc with air conditioning systems. Have you thought of a model railway? Much safer option.

I once had an employee who wanted to use small scooter to get around the office and up and down the corridor. As the corridor was also use by people working in labs and moving things between labs, I suggested that that might not be a good idea. Sorry to be a spoil sport but why do people come up with such dim ideas...

Blimy seen it all now on here - it’s not for this forum agreed but heavy e mail traffic is an issue and wastes valuable time. Control it / manage it Mini helicopters – the little toy things??? I despair………………….. I have just started with a new company and they do just that as with all aspects of management leadership from the top……………….
