Has anyone ever come across the use of vegetable oil as a first aid treatment? I've found a bottle in one of the first aid kits on site! Perhaps the first aider responsible for this area enjoys a nice tossed salad for lunch??

I carry a little bottle of oil in my "emergency response kit". I have used it in the past to help with the extraction of little heads, hands and other body parts from tight spaces including railings, wedding bands and a plastic potty.

Washing up liquid on a tossed salad? To each their own I suppose. ;-)

Although the contents list in a first aid box is what the spec of the box should be, you can put other items such as cling film or Melolin Pads to supplement, but you would need to amend the contents list to show these extra items as this would now be the spec of this box. I would not recommend vegetable oil being in the box for two reasons: 1. if it leaks it will spoil the FAW Contents and 2. Personnel may use it and make injuries worse. If you are going to have a tossed salad then keep the vegetable oil in the kitchen.
