We have a number of employees who work as mobile welders working on Customers sites from an open backed pickup (e.g. Ford Rangers/Toyota Hilux etc) and who therefore carry gas cylinders on a day to day basis.
The quantities of gas cylinders are below the small quantities threshold as per the ADR regulations and we follow the guidance provided in the regulations for the precautions with regards to training/information, fire extinguishers, etc that we should take for such quantities.
I’ve never had to deal with ADR before but from some research, my understanding is that as we are below the small threshold quantities we do NOT need to display any hazard markings on the vehicles but wondered if anyone out there could confirm this or correct me if I’m wrong.

If the quantities are below the threshold you do not need to display any signage if the cylinders are on an open vehicle. If they are being carried in an enclosed vehicle such as a van or a pickup with a canopy or cover then you need to have a warning sign on the vehicle near to the door handle and you must remove it when you are not carrying any gas.

You should also look out the BCGA guidance for the carriage of gas in vans. Which has some useful guidance.

If as you say the amounts are below the amounts stipulated in chapter 1.1.3.6 of ADR then there is no requirements for any markings or placarding for these types of vehicles.

Thanks for the feedback - it sometimes gets so confusing it's good to be able to double check things with others especially as I'm in a stand alone role.
Stevedm - thanks for the pointer to BCGA; I already have access to BCGA publications and I definitely find them and EIGA very useful sources of information which are very relevant to what we do rather than just general guidance.
