Hi I have been asked for information regarding the status of Stainless Steel Extinguishers. Our servicer states; “A) Stainless steel / chrome extinguishers are not to British standard and not kite marked. B) Red extinguishers are to British standard will be easier to service.”
I understand they carry the CE Mark, however they cannot be Certified as Approved to BS/EN3 unless they are red. Whilst these may be serviced in accordance with BS5306 Pt 3 they would still be identified as non conforming product. Have I understand this correctly? Many thanks

They don't have to be kite marked.

Of course, not all extinguishers were red, just most of them. The EN standard requires a small visible panel of appropriate colour to denote the extinguisher type, acknowledging the shiny variety. I wonder if it would be possible to retrospectively mark what you have. The wording as you present it from your Servicing Company does not inspire confidence:
"Red extinguishers are to British Standard will be easier to service" ??

Sounds like another over the top response from a fire equipment engineer, trying to drum up business.
Have the exinguishers been serviced? If yes, then they are likely to work if called upon.
Following a BS is not a legal requirement.
