We are a small welding/fabrication company and carry out some, although very limited, work at height using a MEWP. We use safety restraint harnesses and lanyards at present but these are nearing the end of their lifespan and I am looking at replacing these. Works like this are not an everyday occurrence to us and probably only happen one or two days a month and the time frame where actual welding/burning/grinding operations are taking place at whilst working at height are probably no more than 4 hours per month. We have never had any instances where the harness have gone on fire but I am wondering if I should be looking for flame retardant harnesses/lanyards rather than normal ones? Does anyone know of any reasonably priced suppliers of such equipment?

fscott, Arco supply these as do other PPE suppliers, with regards reasonably priced a quick look £250 - 300 harness and lanyard, is that reasonable ? that's something only you can quantify.

fscot, you could also check http://www.spanset.co.uk...ducts/height-safety.html Just wondering also, do you have your harnesses inspected by a competent person at least every 6 months? If not you may wish to look into it.
