Does anybody know why on earth they think it is a good idea to move the H&S Expo and RoSPA Awards to London? I have been attending the Expo for as long as I can remember, it was a good location at the NEC, inexpensive apart from a bit of parking and petrol, now they think you are going to go through the expense of travelling to London in order to attend. I know a lot of attendees have it all paid for by their companies but their are some individuals who have to pay for it out of their own pocket and in these times of 'austerity' I'm afraid it's priced me out of attending. So no matter how many 'reminder' emails I receive, I for one will not be going.

Because the whole country is Londcentric and Southcentric (I think those are the right terms). We're lucky if the weather forecasts even bother to mention us up here. Luckily I don't care about the location of Expo as I've never gone and don't ever intend to!

I have fond memories of the IOSH Conference being held in Harrogate, & later on, visits to the RoSPA Exhibition at the NEC which was within a manageable distance from home. I appreciate that to many, London will be equally easy to reach, but I am afraid that I will be one of many that find the total costs of attending extortionate when balanced with what I would actually get from any ensuing visit. I did attend the Conference when it came to Manchester, but did not pay for attending the sessions as again, the costs were, in my opinion, excessive, so had to settle for a wander around the exhibitors & having a good chat with some colleagues that I hadn't seen for a while.

Whoever decided on the move to ExCel either did not care about those of us not located in the South East or did not even think about the consequences of their decision. For me to travel to ExCel, even to visit the exhibition would be prohibitively expensive as to have a reasonable time there would involve not only travel but a hotel due to its location the wrong side of London. In fact we had considered taking space at the exhibition for a new product that we are about to launch, but as soon as we realised where the location was to be that idea was dropped! We have exhibitied at ExCell but our experience was that it was so exhibitor unfriendly that we would not go back there again. What was wrong with the NEC? Great location, easy access by public transport (rail and air) and road for the majority of the country. Chris

At a guess IOSH are trying to capture those who feel the distance too great to travel to the Midlands. If that is the case then the S. West - Bristol; NW - Manchester; NE - Sundered; pure north -Perth or Edinburgh & coming back to the NEC for the Midland contingent should all be covered either by rotation or all on an annual basis. Whilst I feel the content can be samey year on year, its good to know that you can seek information at our trade show close to me. So moving it only to London my research will be limited to the Internet. Badger

I also feel very strongly about this. I shall try and put aside the fact that I live in Birmingham. The producers of the show will no-doubt be able to supply sufficient “independent” evidence of why we (The people) thought it would be a great idea to slog across London on the tube and then the DLR or A13 and pay far too much to stay over in a hotel in order to attend this event. Being cynical is a heavy cross to bear but I think the reason will be money in the end. The fact that the NEC is in the centre of the country,(England) near the junctions of 3 or 4 major motorways, a mainline station which has a concourse direct into the show and even an airport within walking distance counts for nothing. My only surprise is that it has not moved to Manchester. Here endeth the rant

Must admit I was looking to exhibit this year, but being based in Scotland the extra travelling and time costs may see me reconsider.

Being a Londoner I have no issues with the move to Excel except that living in NW London it will take me almost as long to get to Excel as it would Birmingham NEC. Perhaps the powers that be intend to switch from Birmingham to London and vice versa yearly and thereby accommodating everyone? Now that would be sensible.

I'm not sure that even Birmingham is accommodating everyone Ray. Birmingham is central (ish) to England, not the UK. Moving venue each year sounds far better to me, but moving around the country. London / Bristol / Birmingham / Manchester / Edinburgh. Now that would be sensible!

Claire, don't worry, I know the only place I'll find sympathy is in the dictionary...

I agree entirely. My reasons for not going are the same as yours. The NEC was easy to get to.

Not really sure what the moaning is about? When they decide to move it back away from London I wont be moaning, I just wont go anymore. Personally Birmingham is a pain up the derriere to get to.
