Last week I tried to log in but like everyone else I found the website unavailable. I (wrongly) assumed the website had crashed or been cloned with the RBS website. Anyway, I am not aware that forum users were notified in advance that work would be undertaken on the website. Second, failing the aforementioned, is it not possible that a message could have displayed on the website accordingly?

Would someone not from RBS care to comment?

Ray, I think I recall seeing a notice about downtime before the shutdown. A message on the home page that said " blah blah from 25th/26th November etc"

Also I think there was a stickie but that seems to have disappeared or perhaps that one was in my virtual world.

Like everyone else I have been having some problems getting logged in but it is getting better. I noticed this evening however that the links to the FAQ and Forum Rules are broken.

I guess it must have been quite a large project changing platforms or whatever they did. The Home Page certainly seems to be laid out on a newer drop box format and does respond more quickly for me than the old one. Of course that means I have to learn where things have moved to but hey ho that's the same as with any new system. Windows 8 anybody (grrrr!)

For several days or more beforehand there was a thread on page 1 telling users that they would only be able to read threads for 24 hours over two numbered dates in late November while the forum underwent some sort of modification. However, the thread title was right at the top of the listings above the two seemingly permanent threads about i) how to register for posting on the forum and ii) the forum rules. Judging from the low number of viewings it received, the thread was apparently missed by most forum users. I didn't spot it myself until just before the forum went into read-only mode.

This prompts a plea to IOSH regarding similar situations in future: Please give advance warning threads more prominence with regard to their title and also their location, i.e. where the latest posting usually appears and not at the very top of the listings. Also, if possible, please be more precise about the time at which read-only status will commence. Furthermore, if there is a likelihood that such status may last for more than 24 hours, it's best to mention this and thus avoid disappointing forum users.

Thanks for the info, clearly I must have missed something. However as Graham has mentioned the advanced warning could have been more prominently displayed with an accurate forecast when the website would be up and running normally.

It never ceases to amaze me how members keep banging on about better information from IOSH and yet, the same issues keep re-surfacing time and again. It's strange how IOSH have no problems in advising members that their subs are due!

Director of Communications - perhaps you would like to comment?

Ray, I hadn't realised that it said e-mail and I have happily been using my user name as of old without any issues.
I have just looked in detail at the page and found this note just below the log on boxes that I see when logging in.

'You can use your Forum screen name instead of your email address to log in if that's easier.'

Whether it has been there all along I can't say but one can now clearly log on just as before the changes. As I said earlier the trouble with changes is it makes us look at things we have come to do on auto pilot.

Despite what it says, it won't allow me to log in with the email address that IOSH has for me.

It seems that there may still be glitches in the system. When I logged on a short while ago the top right corner of my screen showed me as logged in but the page below indicated no access to any of the forums. The only solution was to log out and try again, happily with success this time.

Also there seems to be no access at present to the forum rules. I tried just now and got a page saying it wasn't available. Sorry to be a bearer of news likely to dismay forum users! :-(

Over the past few days I've tried searching for terms such as squirrel, RCV and Mozart, which definitely exist in some of my former postings, but keep getting 'no results found for search'.

Have other forum users experienced problems with the forum search facility since the recent freeze / platform switchover?

p.s. I confess to being baffled by references to the IOSH website having undergone a 'platform switchover'. Surely such things occur at railway stations! :-)

No, I couldn't, either. Judging from the lack of activity yesterday, I think this was a common problem.

According to the site yesterday, I was logged-in all day. without actually having logged-on.
And the forums had disappeared anyway................

I've not been able to access the forum until now since 0830 yesterday, emailed IOSH a screenshot earlier as I could see people were posting but I couldn't access the discussion boards.

Hopefully the last of the bugs have been sorted out now...

I was unable to load up any forums since yesterday.

I have spoken to IOSH, they recommended deleting cookies and temporary internet files (you can Google how to do this). This appears to have righted the wrong.

Not sure why I'm putting this on here, if you cant access this area you wont be able to see the solution.

Oh well, worth a try

But I love how IOSH are trying to blame our own computers.

Dear IOSH I tried from various computers. Your systems, not mine. Don't pass the buck. Instead fix the problems.

It's not been their finest hour! I love the front page message "notice something different?". Yep. The forums don't work as well as they used to! I don't know if IOSH are blaming our kit, but it's rather obvious to me that nothing kit wise has changed at this end. Pc, laptop, tablet, or iPad I've had problems with accessing the forums since the 'upgrade'. And the common denominator is?

The latest snag that I love best was thus morning. When I logged on to leave a message the system showed me as being logged in but then wouldn't let me access the forums as I didn't have membership; or something similar.

Was this upgrade not tested first? Obviously something of a rhetorical question!

ItÅ› your own fault. You should be using windows 7 first edition with IE6 on a 1200/75 dialup modem!

Still cannot get it to remeber my password to my email addie!!!!!!!

New platform and forget the users it seems. Mind you my library changes its website every 6 months and dumps all remembered information such as passwords because it is a NEW website according to windows. Now where is that Microsoft designed car - To shut down Press Start Button. Looks like the Grange is attempting a design too
