I am an In House fork lift examiner as one part of my role. I have Nebosh NGC1-3. I have been involved with health and safety as part of this role but I am now looking to go into the health and safety role full time. If anyone can give me some advice it would be much appreciated.

Hi Dan The health and safety world can be a little difficult to enter, what you need is a plan going forward. I suggest you get on a few of the job sites out there and type in H&S manager / officer etc. and check out the requirements they are looking for; most will ask for NEBOSH-Dip and Chartered membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) etc. Now this is were the planning comes in. You could get lucky and land yourself a H&S role without these, I have known a few who have, but certainly CMIOSH status and what is required to get there is well worth looking in to. Also keep in mind that a lot of H&S roles now are advertised with other responsibilities such as H&S and environment / H&S and quality . In my case it was H&S and Facilities manager. You need to sit down and think about were you are now, were you want to be and how to get there. Last point ... don't get despondent if you don't get a H&S job straight away. You may have to apply for loads and loads of jobs before you even get an interview, you then may have to go to loads and loads of interviews to be offered a job. The secret is .. don't give up .. keep your passion alive by having a well thought out plan of attack. Good luck Dan. let us all know how you get on

Would your current employer allow you to take on board more H&S related duties as part of your current role? Or even one off projects.
