Happy New Year everyone, I am planning a H&S awareness day in a few months and want to try and arrange something with a bit more fun than we would normally engage. I have the makings of an idea - a murder mystery style event but with a staged accident instead of a murder. I would fake an accident using real requipment, in the real workplace, using real colleagues. I would then have colleagues with mini scripts who can give statements, have prepared "evidence" to be reviewed etc. Has anyone every done anything like this? I know its going to take a lot of preparation and was hoping for tips on what to include, what doesn't work, anything that worked particularly well. Thanks, Sarah

Sarah, a couple of years ago I attended a session at the Bolton H&S Event that featured a company who specialise in accident investigation training via mini-plays. Their presentation was excellent but sadly I cannot now remember who they were nor find any of their contact details, although I think they were NE based. Maybe somebody else on here has a better memory than me.

Who would the participants (ie not the actors) ‘play’? Would they be H&S advisers or HSE inspectors or someone else? I am saying this as I remember once going to a murder mystery evening and it as not clear what role we, the punters, were playing. It got very confused and silly towards the end but at least there was a bar!

Hi, My hope is that the participants would be made up of colleagues completing the investigation. They would play the role of the Environmental Health Officer / HSE / Police etc. I'm even wondering whether to offer them character roles along the lines of Columbo, Miss Marple but think this might be taking it a bit far. I didn't realise there were companies out there who arranged this kind of event. Thanks for the tip i will definitely investigate. Sarah

Turner, Read this review for mention of a provider of such activities: http://www.shirleyparson...gh-the-power-of-theatre/ Could also consider speaking to those IOSH branches that have put on mock courtroom trials to see if they could offer any advice. Phil
