When I asked IOSH in March I received this reply:

Unless there is an expiry date on a certificate, it does not actually expire. However, IOSH recommends that delegates refresh their knowledge every 3 years, as this is training best practice. We update our Managing Safely courses on a 3 year rolling basis to ensure that the material is kept up to date with statistics, legislation, best practice etc. To refresh knowledge, we do have providers who offer a one day Managing Safely Refresher course. However this Refresher course must be undertaken within 3 years of the original Managing Safely course date.
Hope this helps Martyn

We deliver a 1 day refresher on a 3 yearly rolling programme but have some managers who miss the deadline and iosh are sticky about allowing refresher if over three years since full course attended. I don't understand how you can have no requirement for refresher on one hand and a rule that says if you go over three years you must attend the full course again. Thanks Martyn - haven't been on for a while.

Hi ipaterson I understood that the "suggestion" for IOSH MS & WS Refreshers at 3yr intervals was dumped by IOSH some time ago; has it subsequently been re-instated without being made known to the providers? Perhaps the IOSH Training Dept could provide a clear and autjoritative statement on this sometime this week? Frank Hallett
