I am looking for information to assist with selection of the right type of panic alarm. We are designing meeting rooms where employees will work with our Service Users on a 1 to 1 basis.

Part of the assessment process identifies the requirement to have an alarm to call assistance. There are a number of alarms available between portable and fixed wall/furniture strips. What are your experiences of each in terms of ease of access for the user?

With thanks

Hi Hacon

I'm sorry, but you really don't provide sufficient information to provide a focussed and meaningfull response.

I could be facetious about the ability of the Service Users to harm your employees; but I will simply ask:-
What type of "Service User" are we considering?
What is their relationship with your employees? Are your employees providing genuine assistance or could there be a punitive element?
What are the building constraints; are there different buildings with different characteristics?
What external controls are there to persuade the Service User to behave in an acceptable manner?
What is the range of physical characteristics of your employees?

Hi Hacon,
We currently have a mixture of fixed wall switch alarms and analogue pager systems- e.g. hold button for two seconds.
I have previously used a three way mobile pager;
1 hold button for 2 seconds
2 Man down- pager horizontal for 2 seconds
3 pull cable connected to person.
It worked reasonably well except for horizontal alarms as when you sat down it tended to turn horizontal! Also coverage with analogue alarms can be a problem.
We are currently switching to a wifi system where the alarms will also double as phone system.
Have you considered an under desk alarm (consultation room layout very important) and a phone distress signal system? e.g. call reception with a generic coded message.
