Hello,

All of our hgvs are fitted with fire extinguishers and the drivers are requesting training on them.
What is the norm for hgvs, what info do you give them? A contact I have has told me they dont fit theirs with extinguishers and they are told to just exit vehicle and call emergency services.

Hi lisar

Do you carry goods that fall within ADR?

If "Yes", you must provide and train; if not, your RA for provision will relate to the carriage of your normal loads.

Hi Lisar,

We don't fit ours with fire extinguisher's. The instruction to the driver is to exit the vehicle and move to a safe distance and then call the fire brigade.

Hi Lisar.

I'd advise their removal. As posted above- get clear and ring the fire and rescue service.

Don't think I would recommend removal. Best practice would say keep them and train accordingly. They would only be there to aid the drivers escape. Followed by the advice of get out and call for help.

Lisa,

Are these in cab or externally fitted extinguishers?

In cab - I'd follow SteveDM's advise

External - I'd inquire as to why they were fitted. There may a business reason, ie previous use, future business in more hazardous carriage etc.
