One of our FLT drivers has suggested the retro fitting of wing mirrors to our FLT could prove beneficial.

In point of fact, most FLT's don't come with mirrors fitted.

My opinion is that mirrors will reduce the amount of instances that the driver actually turns around to look what is behind him, and I believe you can actually fail FLT training by not doing this enough.

Also, any changes to working practices should be dictated by risk assessment and I can see no worthwhile reason why the fitting of wing mirrors would reduce exposure to risk.

Comments please.

There is a danger that if you fit mirrors the drivers will forget that they still need to look over their shoulder before reversing.

There was a fatality at a Builders Merchant in 2012 caused by a reversing Forklift.
