The other day at a site visit we were asked to sign a carbon footprint book which was an A3 sheet where you had to tick your vehicle type & add miles to site and miles to travel from site. At the bottom there was a scoring system. At the time I filled it in without much thought as we had a task to undertake but now I wish I spent a little longer studying the form as I think it is something we could adopt as a visitors book for our site. Our environmental systems are weak and my knowledge is pretty basic around this aspect. My questions are could someone explain further about this type of book (scoring system, benefits, etc) and could anyone point me to a form template which I could use? Thanks
Kate.

Kate.

Collecting information is only going to be useful if you are going to do something with the information. So I suggest starting from the question of what you want to achieve before deciding what information to collect and how to collect it.

As Kate has noted. Otherwise if you stop all your customers visiting you get a better carbon foot print, both from reduced travelling and no work. :0)

At the risk of upsetting the environmental lobby, my comment would be that this type of request for information is a total and utter waste of everyone's time and effort, and serves absolutely no useful purpose at all. I have visited a number of sites where this type of information has been requested. They did not take it to kindly when I stated that if they don't want people to travel more than a certain distance to site they need to amend their tendering processes to only include locals. To be quite frank contracting is still "get three quotes and go for the cheapest" and no one gives a damm for this type environmental hogwash. Rodger Ker
