Recently graduated with Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Apllied management. Worked very hard over the last five years achieving Nebosh certificate, Foundation degeree in Health and Safety management at Sunderland university and Technical membership of IOSH. Also gained PTTLS Level 4 training qualification. Experience lies in low level positions such as Safety assistant and Safety rep in retail and manufacturing environments. Would appreciate any help or advice to make the breakthrough career wise in which i can use my qualifications to employees benefit and gain valuable experience. Thanks i know its tough so dont need reminded just generally looking for opportunities in the field at any level.

Steve, Out of interest what was the motivation for the Business Applied Management BA? Other than that I suggest to prepare a good CV and which emphasises/promotes your H&S experience and shows how other non direct H&S experience compliments it. Basically show how what you have done makes you a good candidate for what you want to do. Register your CV with some agencies and internet job sites and make it searchable etc., and be as flexible as you can with regards to location and job type etc., whilst keeping to the core of what you want. More jobs will become available as the economy continues to pick up and so if you do not find immediate success then keep your spirits up and keep trying; the first step will come along at some time. Other than that I shall not remind you of what you suggest you do not need to be reminded on. :) Regards.

Steve, Have a good long look at which industry you want to work in. That may seem obvious but H&S is a broad industry incorporating Rail, Building, Manufacturing, Chemicals and the corresponding experience required in each industry can be very different. For example you can be highly qualified in buildnig health and safety but not stand a chance of getting a rail job if one comes up. I would say look at where your interest lies (as well as availability of jobs) and try to extend your qualifications n that direction.

Steve, To be honest David i did the Foundation degree in Health and Safety management over two years. The was no option of a third year to achieve the honours at the University so i was offered the applied business for the third year. This allowed me to achieve the honours and i suppose having the degree still proves i have a range of competencies including report writing etc. Strange it might seem.
