Does anyone have results from a quantitative air monitoring survey, preferably grab sampling for short term as well as long term, in the drywall industry. Basically I would like to demonstrate if possible that WEL's are not being exceeded, given all other controls in place i.e. L.E.V and FFFP2 masks. The objective is to demonstrate through detailed risk assessment that Face -fit testing is not reasonably practicable (but please don't let that distract from my question, I imagine that is a "Hot debate")
And if no-one can offer assistance down that line, are there other service providers, than occupational hygienists?

Fixers? T&J? Plasterers? Our personal monitoring shows that fixers generally do not breach any levels, T&J and plasterers can exceed the levels however if applicable tools have dust extraction on them (& the dust extraction is working okay) then again they generally don't exceed the levels - however we do face fit test all of our operatives as there may always be times when they would need to wear a face mask. You mention FFP2 masks as a control measure - if your using these then these are what need to be face-fit tested anyway. Also not sure why you think that face fit testing is not reasonable practicable - we've had people trained in-house for qualitative testing. The training was free from our PPE supplier and the kit is relatively cheap (£110 from memory) and the test is easy. Also (again) your risk assessment will either say you do need or do not need face fit testing, I'm afraid there's no 'reasonably practicable' in it - it's an absolute duty if you identify you need a mask as a control measure.

Palmer, my monitoring strategy would consider all SEG's, but likely be focussed on worst case scenario i.e. mechanical cuts of fixers, and T&J's/ plasterers mixing activities. Secondly, we do provide Face-fit testing and I'm about to go on the train the trainer course for face fit testing along with the rest of the H&S team. Maybe in trying not to detract from my question, I left out details implying our current practise ,maybe.....
But thanks for sharing your previous results. My intention was to "pipe down" an individual who both the majority of a labour force despise, and conscientious H&S professionals lament, for bringing our profession in to disrepute on a regular basis. Our controls, include segregated, well ventilated cutting areas, tool extraction, damp sweeping,as well as PPE/RPE, amongst others. The company are more than willing to demonstrate quantitatively that the WEL's are being exceeded, should 1 or a combination of our controls not be effective.
Thanks again, you appear to be only 1 of 98 views to venture comment :)
