All,
Can anyone recommend fire awareness materials that we can show at induction stage to new starts and to show existing staff.
We have 300 plus staff spread over different locations, all have access to a shared drive on a central server.
Can anyone recommend some non copyright material.( quite willng to pay for the correct material)
In the past we have used a dvd but as it cannot legally be copied it makes watching it sometime a problem.
Trying to keep more and more info on the server so its accessable by all staff at any time.
Cheers
Tony

Hi Tony
You don't identify the range of occupancies, nor what your various business sites actually do, so it's impossible to suggest an appropriate programme.
In my view, you should not be blindly using generic material unless it matches exactly what you require to be known and done on each site that views it as most of these "resources" are stuffed with generalisations and almost invariably fail to address one or more critical aspect of the "in-house" procedure.
If you have several locations of differing design and occupancy, the generic info becomes not only bland but potentially dangerously irrelevant.
If you're using it as part of your Fire Safety training, you should ensure that it says exactly what you want to happen on each site.
My opinion - you can disagree if you wish.

Hi Tony, my humble oppinion is in contradiction to Franks as you have specifically asked for fire awareness materials I believe that anything that raises awareness will help rather than be potentially dangerous. I would recommend the "station fire" YouTube video which is live footage of a night club fire in Rhode Island several years ago. Additional information is also freely available which all lead to the same important factor, know where the nearest fire exit is. Most people will automatically leave by the way they came in, but when you have seen bodies piling high while trying to escape through a narrow doorway because everyone tried to leave the same way it will have a lasting effect. As stated just my oppinion which is based on the responses recieved from using this video in training sessions.
Good luck anyway.

Having watched (in horror) the Rhode Island footage. I would suggest it is way too graphic for general fire awareness training - people being crushed and burned to death. I watched it in mixed company in a fire service setting and quite a few people had to leave the room in tears.
If yours are low risk premises, ie offices, I would go with a general awareness film - fire triangle, extinguishers, fire strategy, evac etc and back up with site specific briefings and a follow up drill.
Anything more risky and you may need to think about something bespoke.

May I just remind responders that the initial post specifically states that the resource is for:-
"induction stage to new starts and to show existing staff. We have 300 plus staff spread over different locations". No indication is provided of business activity, location of premises, nor inclusion of the site-specific FRA.
With that in mind I stand by my previous comment.
If this resource is to be used for induction it really should be specific to the needs of the business at that particular site!
I've lost count of the number of times that I've been sat down to watch a video/dvd that is supposed to be an "induction" but simply regurgitates the same bland & generic guff without telling the viewers what the Fire response procedure is for that particular site.
If it's for induction, it should be site-specific and detail what the inductees need to know to survive an emergency [or to prevent creating one] on that site.

To be honest its the generic material i require, as this is backed up with specific inductions on different sites.
These sites are restaurants and indoor sports changing rooms and offices
We had the fire awareness dvd, that everone watches at induction.just looking for some fresh non copyright material.
We have specific fra for each location
Servcing of afd
Servicing of extinguisher
Servicing of em lights
Maintenance and checks on fire doors
In service inspection and testing on electrical equipment
Defect reporting procedure in place

Hi Tony I've sent you a PM with details of a possible supplier of a fire DVD for you (I've no connection with them by the way).

The old but good video "ffront room fire" is a good general fire video - you may not use candles at work but it is still good at showing how rapidly fire gains traction etc and gets people's attention.
