Hi, can any practitioners or H&S Managers out there recommend any Sound Level Meters that come with personal dose-meters and relatively simple software to use? I don't want to stick a budget down but needless to say, I have a CBA to demonstrate to my line manager - Any experience in good value meters will be gratefully received - Thanks in advance

I use the Cirrus Optimus Red, which has all the bells and whistles, although is very easy to operate. This does have the dose badge option as an extra but the kits are to the top of most company’s budgets. Cirrus also have free software you can download (called ‘noisetool’ or something) which I find very useful. I have heard that 3M also do a simple to use noise meter (cant remember the model, but it was posted in a noise related thread a few days ago) for under £500 which is class 2, but I cant comment on its use? I’m sure they offer dose badges too.
Calling on my limited experience, I can recommend Cirrus.
Good Luck

Hi there,
We also bought the Optimus Red, and four dose badges with it. Both have proved really simple to use and none of the dose badges have had any problems. The mounting attachments look a bit flimsy for site use, but I was pleasantly surprised to note that none of ours came off in any of the multi-day surveys. Either that or they spent the day in the van next to the radio of course... Really happy with both the kit and the service.
One thing I appreciate is that the PC software is unlimited use meaning you can install it on as many machines as you like - we've placed the database of measurements on a shared network drive so that whoever fires up the software on their PC can see all the measurements. Our Castle HAV meter's software is free but licensed and they wouldn't give us even a second full licence without charging us, which is a pain when you've more than one person using the kit.

My manager can tell when I CBA from about 50 yards away.
