Can someone help with a question regarding Asbestos roof tiles.
I have been told by someone there are only four types of asbestos roof tiles, Now I would assume there are more and its hard to put a number on.
Anyone ?
Basically I have been asked to write a report on working with asbestos roof tiles (removing them and putting back or drilling)
I want to know how many types of tiles are out there that could possibly contain ACM's.
We only work on domestic roofs so my view is that we should no complete asbestos jobs, we currently don't have any training and it wouldn't be work the cost for the amount of ACM jobs we have.

I'm no expert but I think it is risky to think/assume that there are just "x" number of products (trade named materials )that contain asbestos. It seems to have been used in just about every sort of building material at some time: http://www.aic.org.uk/Tradenames.htmhttp://www.hse.gov.uk/as...os/managing/products.htmThese lists make interesting reading. And heaven knows how one identifies that a roof tile is of brand "X" after 20 years in situ...without expert help! Hope of some help. Phil

Hi mate. We had this last year didn't we? I'm sure the Regs state that ANYONE who knowingly works with ACM's must have the level 'B' training as opposed to Asbestos Awareness. Bear in mind you'll have to get the proper PPE and safe disposal of the waste too.

PP - Thanks will have a look
Frank - Yes we did mate, unfortunately it's me against a whole sales team therefore I have to keep justifying myself and this time they want a report which includes the amount of roof tiles that contain asbestos!

You need to visit the HSE's web site asbestos essentials http://www.hse.gov.uk/asbestos/essentials/ where you can download various task sheets which will provide all the advice you will need when dealing with non-licensed tasks. However non-licensed tasks require training so ensure operatives have received the correct training on non-licensed work. As for asbestos roof tiles I have never come across roof tiles containing asbestos apart from flat roof slates which are easy to handle and dispose off (ensure you use doubled correctly labeled bags) and the correct PPE. Before you start any work make sure the task has been properly planned. The task sheets I'd advise you to download are A0, EM 1,2,4,6,7,8,9/ A9,A11 make sure you read and fully understand the task sheet requirements before carrying any work.

Just bringing this one back to life..
So I understand if we are just moving the tiles up and fixing the bracket to the rafter and then placing the tile back this would be non-licenced.
However, if we were to drill holes for each bracket in the roof tiles (Approximately 32 holes continuously) would you still class this as non licensed ?
