I am looking to implement a safety trend analysis programme for my employers who are a major principal contractor within the construction industry. To bring this about I aim to employ leading and lagging analysis but there seems to be very little guidance available in relation to construction.
Anyone have any ideas where I can find some data specific to the building industry?
Are any other safety professionals using something simiular in this industry?

For lag indicators - you can use the HSE stats for the construction industry - all available via the HSE website.

Is your company a member of any trade organisation that might do benchmarking?

You could benchmark against similar (or bigger) companies, rather against HSE construction accident statistics which include the reported (rather than reportable) performance of micros and SMEs which is substantially worse than average.
You will find some stats for members of UK Contractors Group via google.
Check whether UKCG or other contractors are maintaining stats only for their direct employees or also for their supply chains. Rates are likely to be higher if sub-contractors are included as the direct employees are usually mostly doing lower risk activities with substantial time in the site offices.

try OSHA, and search for "form300". It will give you a template to work from. OSHA will have figures for industry for comparison purposes.

But OSHA is the US regulator. There are huge differences between safety in the UK and the US, so OSHA statistics are not likely to be a relevant benchmark.

I'm not sure what you are looking for here Steven. Are you looking for historical data in construction for benchmarking or are you looking for examples of leading and lagging indicators.
If it is the latter you could use:
Lagging - accident records, near misses, severity rates, accident frequency rates, types of accident, body parts affected, etc
Leading - site inspections, audits, safety tours, behavioral observations, safety cultures surveys etc.

The current edition of the IOSH learned journal PPHS includes a couple of papers about leading indicators used for monitoring construction sector health management on the London Olympics sites, and some ideas on how they might be adapted for other situations.
A key idea is to manage 'health like safety', rather than expecting that only OH physicians and nurses have a leading role.
