Hi all
Is there anyone out there that can provide any information regarding the dangers of wood chip? The wood chip is recycled wood chip and can contain moisture. Interested in the aspect of confined space entry and understanding the hazards posed by this type of fuel e.g. combustion and toxic gases.
Any help much appreciated;
J

Hi Jarsmith http://www.woodrecyclers.org/I carried out a fire risk assessment for a client using guidance from these guys, there is a lot of information available for shipping and lot of anecdotal data too. I would try the above and get some contacts in the port industry as I am sure control there will be best practice.... hmmmmmm well maybe. I also have to point out a few days after my FRA a ship caught fire with a cargo of woodchip -I must point out it was not my fault and my controls were sound :) As for the confined space question - I would again look to shipping and follow a SOP for entry to a hold. Hope that helps - unfortunately I can't share anything as it's work for a large client :(

Good link but can anyone outline if the risk of CO is higher from pellets, the question was about woodchip. - I had considered CO but not in light of an HSE bulletin as I have only ever looked for woodchip! Ah the joys of safety
