Hi
Can anyone advise if there is a statutory requirement to inspect Metal Cutting Guillotines and if so how often this should be?
Regards

Andy, Which statutory regulations are you thinking about?

Andy: the simple answer is 'NO' There is no explicit statutory obligation specifically covering the inspection of metal cutting guillotines (in the UK)....
More useful answer - probably - is that you need to comply with the PUWE Regs requirements - and any suitable assessment of the risks associated with these machines will (probably...) conclude that regular inspection (and maintenance) is needed to ensure continuing safety. The frequency of the inspection will depend on the size and complexity of the machine... Is it slicing thin aluminium foil or three inch steel plate? Is it running 24/7 or is it only switched on once in a blue moon? How often does it go wrong - and what are failure modes? How often does it need to be re-set for different tasks?
Without knowing the answer to these questions - not possible to advise a suitable inspection frequency...

We have a large adjustable unit that is only used approx 2 or 3 times per week.
We inspect / maintain every 6 months ( by in-house engineer ). Frankly, not much to maintain - more of a function check.
Individuals are instructed to check working condition, interlocks and guards before each use and we have a lock off / defect procedure.
Managers also check lights, guards and interlocks on their monthly walk-around check sheets.
