A lot of insurance companies produce free advice on their websites on how to prevent flooding and minimise damage arising from flooding. If you are talking about how to manage a flooding incident as it commences, then consider things like emergency stores of torches, hi-vis vests, whistles / two way radios etc together with site plans. Mounted in a high level cupboard near building entrance / reception area. If you are talking about a property that has already flooded, then you need to consider the following:- 1) state of the flood waters. If water is still incoming or it is night then the best advice would be to leave well alone. 2) If we are talking about a mop up operation then you need to consider provision of PPE like waders. Personally I would favour steel toe capped and soled wellington boots because you cannot see what debris is hiding in the water. 3) anyone with open wounds or dressings should be kept away due to infection risks. It is likely that sewage waste will be mixed in with the flood waters. 4) suitable washing facilities or areas to change out of wet clothes. 5) Avoid basement areas full stop and if the stairs leading down to lower levels are open plan, avoid entering that area. You will not see the level change. 6) Status of the building electrics. Power supply should be isolated by a professional. 7) Rest areas for taking food should be as hygienic as possible and there should be dry storage for food and areas to wash hands. Leptospirosis risk. Insurers will appoint salvage experts if there is a reasonable prospect of repairs or the item is irreplable. They will also arrange for dryer units to be installed and clean up operations to be carried out so anything other than a minor bailout* is probably best left to them. * I appreciate that after flooding, nothing seems to be minor. Best advice is to move to your business continuity plan and try to make alternative trading arrangements.

In a previous life as part of my role I managed the Insurance Department. In post the 2011 floods Insurers requested simple flood plans for the retail estate. PM me if you want a copy of one. Steve is current - your insurers will have a wealth of info on this matter after all its in their interest.
