Just been looking at the list of jobs on the happiness scale and had to scroll down a very long way to find anything that may relate to most of us here. According to the Cabinet Office we are 150th out of 274 listed job types, indicating that we are on balance a quite miserable lot. Reading some postings on this forum I can relate to that but others seem to be very content in their jobs. Personally, I love the work I do, get great satisfaction from doing a job well and have more great days than dreadful ones. On the whole, I'm very happy, but does that make me abnormal? Maybe being self-employed is the key. What do other have to say?

Love your job and you will never work a day in your life, is how I try to approach things. If you can manage to find a positive in all the negatives we encounter every day can be a good one. Or is it just me?

I love my job but some of the people I have to work with make that love a little less.

I enjoy my role in an organisation that I enjoy working for. Yes there are people there that make this a little less enjoyable and much more stressful at times but I did not go into H&S for an easy time - I enjoy the challenge of change for the good. Red wine helps too.

I'm an insurance surveyor specialising in liability surveys (as are a couple of others on here). I enjoy the sheer variety of the job. Previously worked for a company that did construction and quarrying. On the roof of the Excel centre one week, in a large slate quarry the next. Currently working for a company that insure a lot of churches, schools, charities and heritage sites. Still H&S but a whole new set of things to learn about / remember from my studies. Despair at the report writing sometimes but the site meetings make it all worthwhile - especially when I meet a proper H&S person and we can talk the same language.

Hi, I sometimes can find myself in the middle of the Australian outback watching the varied wildlife and it makes up for some of the negatives, even last week was a trip to Sydney for a HAZID meeting with a new client. The role I have is very enjoyable but like others some "characters" within the organisation can make a simple enough issue to resolve a project of quite large proportions. Overall would not change the role apart from a nought or 2 extra on the salary. Chris
