Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of conducting a risk assessment for a game shoot or where I could obtain further information?.
My client organise pheasant and duck shooting on the estate and i'm looking for a specific risk assessment for these activities.
Any advice welcome.

I once had one for shooting rabbits on one of our sites, I guess it covered similar issues.
It was largely covering things like the range of the weapon, whether it was, or needed to be, licenced.
There is also the issue of noise in respect of the neighbours.
Then there is the big one - how to prevent people from shooting other people by accident. In our case this was handled by ensuring that the shoots were always done at a pre-arranged time, so that the people living on the site would ensure that they and their children were indoors.

Hi
The British Association for Shooting and Conservation may be able to help you or your client with this.
But obviously make sure any advice given is competent - based on skills and experience. If you have no experience of shooting in the field you will need to involve someone who is.

Hi Andrew,
I should imagine your client would be his own expert of this one.
Its often better to spend time explaining to them what's required from a risk assessment rather than try to fit a risk assessment to the client.
There will be so many variables that a generic risk assessment will not work.
Weather conditions, ground conditions, who is shooting and their level of skill etc etc.
regards
Bernie

Thank you
I have had a quick read through the HSE guidance and there is also a whole host of information on the Countryside Alliance website which should give me enough information to provide some guidance if required and where to go.
I will also take a look at the British Association for Shooting and Conservation.
There are, as mentioned a large number of variables.
