Good morning all; I am looking to branch out as a part time H&S consultant, with most work in the waste industry (landfills, processing plant etc) and some with small metal bashers / builders (machinery, fabrication, small construction & refurbs. 1. Could anyone suggest what level of PI would be appropriate? 2. PI appears to cover only claims made during the period of the policy; how do I cover myself for claims made after the policy terminates? (eg,retirement) Thank you, Tom P

Tom Beyond the policy you want run off insurance. How much - depends how much you could be sued for e.g. for chronic health risks. You'll be aware that occupational health is rising up the agenda in the waste sector.

Paice, regarding PI insurance, if you contact the providers they will want to set up a profile on you which describes the type of work you plan to do, how big your customers will be, what your income might be etc and they will then advise you on the appropriate cover. John

Peter - run-off insurance sounds right - I couldn't see ho PI would be paid in perpetuity. John - yes, spent much time on the phone with a couple of providers; their main line was that they state facts but don't advise. I'm not sure about the £compare the meerkat" website doing PI... Many thanks to you both, Tom P

Get a business insurance broker, you "may" pay a little more, but get them to sort the cover for you, if they got it wrong, their PII kicks in! ;)
