If you have a Company, and they have multiple sites, which each site expected to run themselves, but adhere to the Companies Safety Management System...if one of the sites decides to go for 18001 accreditation, are they able too even though the Company does not???

It's when you go for group certification that you have the problems! One bad site = removal of certification for all! Be master of your own destiny if you can.

I once worked for a company who had four main production sites, each one having its own quality certification, although the head office did not. It all depends on the scope of the certification, which is agreed with the certifying body up front, and reflected on the certificate of certification if gained. Although a bit of an administration nightmare, it does have the advantage that if one site falls by the way, it doesn't bring down the rest of them.
