We currently train our staff in house on the use of electric pallet trucks from the risk assessments and SSOW in place and have developed a training document. We are being told all staff need to receive specific approved training on their use to cover our legal duties ? What do others do, any advice would be great. Thanks

By whom and by what authority? In-house training may well be (often is) much better than a generic outsourced course. Challenge whoever is telling you to quote their source.

I assume they are referring to RTITB or ITSSAR. They is no need to gain this accreditation for electric pallet trucks. If they are ride on trucks however you may want to look at what is covered in the training: http://www.hse.gov.uk/wo.../lift-truck-training.htm

As long as the operator is not riding on the footplate of these machines then your training and SSOW will suffice. Once the operator mounts the plate at the back of the machine it will be classed as a rider operated machine and will be classified under LOLER and accredited training will be required.
