Rank: Forum user		Hi does anyone do this? Is it acceptable to do tool box talks by sending them via email? Is this authentic, I don't think it is the best method. Just interested in views.

Rank: Super forum user		If you mean just sending people something by email, how can this be a tool box TALK? In my experience TBTs, if done properly, are a short sharp two way disusssion, NOT just a one way sending of messages. By all means, send them out by email, but to be effective they need - wait for it! a "talk"!

A ‘toolbox talk’ is a short presentation to the workforce on a single aspect of health and safety. ....which is pretty weak, particularly the 'to the workforce - implying one way'. It would never pass the NEBOSH test of completeness! Simon

Rank: Super forum user		Pikeman - with tongue firmly in cheek, I seem to recall an HSE bod giving a talk in a documentary, The Fun Police. It consisted of him doing the dishes at home and explaining how not to cut yourself on knives and broken glass. Cutting Edge - The Fun Police.

Rank: Super forum user		Most of my toolbox talks are conducted in a face to face manner, but there is the odd occasion where I may need to email. The email would consist of a small presentation in document form and I would always follow up with a chat, to ensure that it was read, understood and complied with. Pete

Rank: Super forum user		I’d never call anything sent by email a tool box talk. TBT implies a short presentation in the workplace with face to face discussion with the employees involved. If you are sending stuff by email it’s a ‘Safety Alert’ at best .

Rank: Super forum user		Webinars are good for some things like broadcasting/exchanging ideas but a TBT is about( I think) hands on stuff- show and tell and it should be done by the local manager not some remote bod. I have had webinars with people overseas and it is obvious they don't know what we are upto here in the UK. So it's that old cliché- horses for courses
