my friend worked in Construction for 5 years doing Joinery, Labouring etc, then went to Australia and worked in the Mines / Construction, with about 18months of the 3 years in Australia, he worked as a Health and Safety Assistant / Officer. He is returning to the UK in November, and wants to do a Course, so he has a Qualification in Health and Safety...Can anyone give advice on the best one to do, think hes looking for either a 5-day course, or maybe something he can do over a year from home???
Any help would be greatly appreciated

That's a vague question as 5 day SMSTS and a year long distance learning Diploma are a very long way apart.
I would:
Start with NEBOSH Certificate, if he wants to stay in construction I'd go for the NEBSOH Construction Cert, if not the NEBOSH General Cert.

Agreed, the Nebosh Diploma is a long, difficult and complex beast. Stick with the National General certificate by Nebosh.

Agree The Cert is most people's first rung on the H&S ladder And a potential route into employment.
Depending on how easy or hard he finds it will point the way towards the next rung.
