Good Afternoon, We have recently acquired office space in a shared building which has a metal external fire escape with a swing down ladder at the bottom end. It looks ok to me, but I am not a structural engineer. Does anyone know if there is a laid down test and inspection requirement for these structures? I have searched but cannot find any and I have also asked our fire safety expert, but he does not know of any. If anyone knows of any, I would be grateful for any information you have. Thanks very much for your help.

Hi - I have just surveyed potential new premises for us this morning and we have a roof top escape leading to a external metal staircase, its looks a bit ropy to me!!!. I too am limited in this field and I have passed this back to our facilities team to instruct a structural surveyor with the necessary competence to look at the stairs. What that surveyor's competence or required tests are at this moment I'm not sure but I'll know in a few days and post pack here.
