Hi, I work for a contractor on a refurbishment project. We have had an issue of school children aged between 10 and 14 trying to access the work area, damaging hoarding and oasis unit. Does anyone have any information, presentations that they may have used in the past that you are willing to share? Thanks.

Chris, when a site starts up I deliver letters to neighbours. I've cut and pasted draft text from the template I use
Quote:
Draft letter to neighbours As you may be aware, xxxxxx Builders are currently building new homes on the site near to your property. As part of our general safety procedures I am writing to you, as the Site Safety Adviser, to provide important information on safety and security. OPTION RURAL Being a remote country location the security risks to the site are low and we do not expect it to be necessary to completely enclose the site with fencing and hoarding, but we realise that whatever security measures are taken a remote site is always vulnerable to trespass. OPTION URBAN Being in a populated area the security risks to the site are significant and we are making every effort to completely enclose the site with fencing and hoarding, but we realise that whatever security measures are taken the site is always vulnerable to trespass. Please help us reinforce the message to children that construction sites are dangerous places. We are aware that children are living close to this site. I am writing to you to emphasise the dangers of construction sites. Every worker on site undergoes construction work training and they wear safety equipment at all times in order to reduce the inherent risks when working on a construction site. Children trespassing on construction sites will not have such training nor safety equipment and therefore represent a serious risk to themselves and others. The reality of an active construction site is that careless behaviour can result in injury or death. Please ensure that your children are aware of the dangers of trespassing on construction sites; it is dangerous to walk on the site as there are various sharp items, slippery ground, rubble, pallets of bricks, digging equipment etc., and even a simple fall/trip can cause serious injury to a child. Information regarding the construction work: All construction work on the site will be completed in accordance with xxxxxxx’s Health & Safety Policy and will comply with the Construction Design and Management Regulations (2007). These include measures to ensure that safety procedures are followed and to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses.

I was contacted by a local school once as they realised that their pupils (out of school hours) were accessing a nearby construction site. They had an assembly and we talked about the dangers etc. I showed them some PPE they got to try on hard hats etc. This was before the HSE info at link above age group was under 12yrs Lilian
