I am looking to do a PHD in health and safety, can anyone point me in the right direction with regards to providers and what is entailed in the PHD, I currently hold a post graduate diploma in safety, health and environmental management and am looking at the next steps in my career. any advice is welcome.

There are a range of providers, a number of Universities will let you put a proposal to them and then decide if they are able to support you. You then pay them your money per year of study an viola!! Start with the Uni's that do MSc programmes.
I am not sure which Uni it is, but one of them lets you submit work that you done already, kind of like a retrospective PhD.
All that said, pretty much all of them ask for a Masters Degree of some sort to enter the programme. But I am not sure if that is entirely universal. Each programme will be different.
So in your search for a PhD, gather information on the MSc's or MPhil's that may be available to you too as I would suspect you will need to attain one of these first.
