Hi All,
As part of our RMS for work in confined and restricted spaces I need to arrange medicals for all staff who undertake this activity. Can anyone advise what our occ. health should be testing the confined space users for? Is there a standard medical or list of tests for confined space? All I can find in the regulations is that "medical advice on an individual's suitability for the work may be needed".
Thanks
Nic

We have only ever used individuals self-certifying (that they are 'generally fit and healthy', have no physical impairments that would prevent the job, and no breathing-related medical conditions) and that they've passed the training course (with its ladders, crawling around etc. in blacked-out full BA).
However, our confined spaces work is only surveying and inspecting, so the training course we use is actually rather more strenuous than the work they go on to do.

When I worked in the chemical industry this mainly centred around RPE and BA wearing for which there are lung function etc tests suggested.
