Hi all.

I attended a conference for people with disabilities (I have Aspergers Syndrome) and some very interesting developments have come to light in relation to people getting an edge seeking work.

Would there be a sufficient demand if I was to approach IOSH to run a webinar to share these developments. The lady who presented is willing to deliver it.

I think that this would impress employers as her students have used it to achieve great success in getting employment!

Thanks for reading this post

That would be a great idea for people with and without disabilities.
I am in Qatar currently and webinars are a great way for people outside the UK to take part.

There seems to be a steady flow of people searching for work, both out of work and those disillusioned where they are and looking to jump ship.

So I guess yes there would be. Good call for helping others Ciaran.

Hi David,

That was my point. The e-portfolio was developed for able-bodied students and AHEAD (Association for Higher Education Access & Disability) invited the Lady concerned to deliver a talk on the topic, to assist people with disabilities to get into the workforce.

There was also an excellent presentation for people with dyslexia in relation to technologies developed in Ireland, which allows them to create excellent reports, dissertations etc.

The more support shown here, the more chance I have of persuading IOSH to deliver such a webinar.

In relation to webinars in general, I think that IOSH should be developing a library of webinars, which would sync nicely to assist members in Qatar and elsewhere to enhance their knowledge and enable them to update their CPD.

I will be raising this in September at the next council meeting for such a library to be put in place. Watch this space!

You have my support. A library of webinars would be extremely helpful to people like me. Good luck in September.

Good idea and fully support it. Having just updated my C.V. and now being only 70% OK with it, I could do with this pretty soon!! Many thanks.

Hi mootoppers,

If you want me to have a look at your CV for you, I'd be happy to do so. Just did it for another member in the North East and they seemed to be pleased with the outcome.

PM me and I'll send you my email.

Reason for doing this: Giving back something to the members same as others have done for me.

Regards,

Ciarán

That sounds like a really good idea! I have managed to get secondment work but nothing permanent, which is what I want/need. You have my backing!

Jodie,

Thank you very much.

One of things that I have been raising at IOSH Council is that members SHOULD be allowed to post job opportunities here and some of the Moderators are in favour of a rule change to allow this.

I could do with some support in the current Council Election so if you and others could consider giving me a vote, I can continue trying along with others to get the rules of the forum changed.

Kind Regards,

Ciarán

This sounds like a good idea.

I'm STILL looking, and to be honest, I'm thinking of throwing in the towel, as it's become so frustrating trying to get anywhere. I'm beginning to think all my hard work was a complete waste of time.
I'm very disullusioned at the moment.

Keep up the good work.

If you want to PM me your e-mail I'd be happy to try to help - not sure how though.
I think we might have corresponded in the past???

I'm all in favour of this, with one proviso, to only allow registered, paid up members of IOSH using that facility. Afterall, IOSH is a charity, and as we all know, charity begins at home, so that's where IOSH should concentrate its efforts.

This is an excellent point Nikki and would overcome some of the objections that it would take advertising revenue from SHP. There are already forums here with restricted access so it can't be beyond the wit of a decent IT to set this up.
Care to start up a new thread to discuss it further?

I concur with many of the above points, it may also quell a few posts on here asking such questions. Plus on a side note, if there was a thread started, anybody that had attended the webinar should be able to afford them a detailed answer.
