Hiya Folks

I just went to but some PI from Hiscox and in the exclusions it specifically states:

"Claims arising from bodily injury and property damage are not covered"

Are you aware of this and if so why else would a H&S Consultant require PI cover if not for this?

professional indemnity is required for providing safety advice.
public liability would provide insurance for damage
employers liability is required if you sub contract work out or employ someone

I work for Oval Insurance Broking Ltd and we have a specific Professional Indemnity product which can cover Public and Employers Liability insurance as well as providing Professional Indemnity covers too. This does not have a bodily injury or property damage exclusion and has a number of extensions including Criminal Prosecution Defence costs and representation. There are two aspects to consider when thinking about insurance cover for consultants: personal (and company) financial protection and what the clients will require or expect.

EL is not needed if there are no employees.

As a safety consultant, your colleague will be well placed to assess the risk to their own personal finances, should they cause damage or harm to others by their errors.

I personally believe that these insurances are over-sold to and over-bought by our community but when clients expect to see certain levels and classes of cover in place, it is too often what we need to do. Brokers and insurance sales people naturally will sell what they can.

I looked at some PI on the IOSH Extras website recently. Sounded like a good deal.
