One for the construction people I hope.
We have guy in our office and he has ended up acting on our behalf interacting with various contractors doing small works on our site. (A government owned lab site employing 500 people).
The issue of H&S often comes up and he gets caught up in arguments about things like RAMS etc. It has been suggested that it would be useful if he was to do a short course which would give him some knowledge on things like general H&S, CDM and managing contractors. Are there any short courses he could do? Ideally he should able to get a CSR “ticket” or equivalent.
There must be something out there for him, so any suggestions welcome.

The CITB would be a good place to start looking.
They have a whole host of training courses, up to the NEBOSH Certificate in Construction, if he needs t go that far.

CITB do a 1 -day on role of CDM Client. Syllabus suggests it would be a decent starting point.

Problems typically arise due to poor, inconsistent or incomplete tender, spec or contract details.
From a personal perspective, I'd expect to have sight of RAMS etc. before the Contractor was permitted on Site. Asking for info. once he's mobilised is often a recipe for confusion and dispute.
