Is there any Lone Working equipment that can be bought that does not need a monitoring centre?

I have distantly heard about an app for smartphones (or similar) which can be linked to the company's computer system and therefore allows the company to self monitor - is this correct and can anybody point me in the right direction please about procurement and cost.

Cheers

Rich

There are but you need to be careful with your alert processes if you don't use an accredited call centre as most police forces will not guarantee an emergency response because of previous false alarms and pressures on the forces.

Thanks hopeful but I don't want to use a commercial call centre who charge about £10 per person per month - this would cost me about £650 and being 3rd sector is cost prohibitive.

I want to be able to monitor my staff from my company's own computer system.

Therefore, picking up your usage of the word "accredited" how do I go about getting accredited?

Thanks for your reply.

We are looking at a monitoring system using a control centre. The reason being is that we realised that there was no point having as system to track employee unless 1) there was someone available at this end to deal with any calls for help( we have staff working all hours and all days) and 2) a way to escalate this if we find that someone is in trouble.
It could be that based on your risk assessment that a simple alert system is good enough but for us and a lot of others it only makes sense to go for a full system.

Hi Rich,
My understanding is that to become an accredited alarm receiving centre (ARC), i.e. one which the police will trust because staff are trained, you would need to achieve both BS:8484 and BS:8591

"BS:8484 gives recommendations for the provision of lone worker device (LWD) services. It applies to suppliers of LWD services, either for their own operations or to customers. It gives the principles and operational procedures to be implemented by an ARC so that controllers can verify activation messages received from LWDs and assist response services when reacting to requests for assistance from lone workers. BS 8484 will also help to minimize the number of false alarms received by response services."

"BS:8591 - This British Standard covers the planning, construction and facilities of manned and unmanned centres, and for the operation of receiving signals from alarm systems other than fire, social, CCTV, lone worker devices and vehicle tracking."

Having visited such a centre (run by a client) I'd suggest that meeting such standards just to monitor one workforce (and on a limited budget) probably isn't viable.
