Google has failed me on this one so hopefully someone here can provide some wise words.
Our engineers' vans carry a nitrogen cylinder - cylinders owned by BOC and swapped out as and when empty. The nitrogen is used to adjust pre-charge pressure in various expansion vessels in the heating and air-conditioning systems of buildings.
The question has been asked about whether any kind of regular maintenance/inspection programme needs to be in place to ensure the safe function of the regulating valves - owned by us - that we use with these nitrogen bottles.
I have some experience of the Pressure System Safety Regs (as they pertain particularly to fixed installations) so am aware that with fixed systems a Written Scheme of Examination would likely be the 'bible' that sets out an inspection regime. I am not clear what the situation is for portable systems..........
Anyone help?

BOC used to do very good training etc. on care of regulators etc. I recall attending one several years ago in Scotland. I'd make them my first port of call.

Not Nitrogen, but the following for oxy /fuel may be of interst:-
British Compressed Gases Association Code of Practice CP7
They may have a version specifically for Nitrogen

The regulator should also have a replace / inspect date on it either stamped on the back or on the ring in front of the gauges

BCGA CP7 is the answer...however when I looked at it when I was in BOC the cost of inspection/refurbishing a regulator far outweighed the cost of a replacement..
