Overseas work?

I am thinking about breaking into contract work overseas (possibly the Gulf States?) for a few years - does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to get into this work and/or experiences that they would like to share?

I am CMIOSH, with a degree in Safety, Health and Environmental Management and over 30 years experience of one form or another in a wide range of sectors, public and private from Manufacturing to the NHS, "heavy engineering" to local authority. Although currently in a full time post I did spend about 10 years as director of my own consultancy.

The best advice is :try to connect with your friends and colleagues who are working in Gulf states or who were worked.. there is not too much chance if you do not know any body or even you get the job , you will be regretted ..be careful about the contract, package and agents, some people get screwed up.. the grass is not always green!!

this is something I looked at and I think you really need to know people working overseas and have a couple of contacts to help you. My advice would be to make contact with some recruiters on linked in and see where that takes you

Its the same old saying if you don't have the experience of overseas, offshore or as a safety adviser etc. It is very hard to get started. I have tried to get a couple of colleagues a start with the company I work with overseas and my boss basically says that they have no overseas experience which is very frustrating as I know they are very capable of doing the job.

I would suggest that you send your CV to everyone who deals with overseas works and hopefully you will get lucky as even if you know someone its not always possible they will get you a start either.
