I know its not Friday but here's a little light relief... We are organising a charity sports day for friends and family of colleagues. I have been asked on board to look after the H&S side of things amongst this of course is the risk assessments. one of the sports available will be "Welly Wanging" not yet an Olympic sport but watch this space. I was just wondering what other bizarre or slightly left of field activities anyone else has done an RA for...

Just popped in for a bit of light relief whilst the missus makes my dinner - reminds me of when I was an employee, pot holing, tight rope walking & other similar such team building activities back in the '80's. we even had an It's a Knock Out...... thankfully not with Stuart Hall. The best one though was walking over hot coals..... prior to walking across said hot coals you had to try & convince yourself they weren't hot..... shouting out phrases such as long cool grass as you ran through these hot coals. You couldn't write it eh..... burnt feet a plenty, national press had a field day & the 'boss' got the bullet. So beware of of extra curricular activities.

Ghost RA. Or more precisely RA for a "paranormal activity" evening in one of our haunted castles.

Not an RA but I submitted a RIDDOR report that read - running away from a ghost... the big question here is was this a work related accident :) What was the control measure in your RA?

Fort Worth Penitentiary asked me to risk assess their electric chair, I told them it was a death trap!

Welly Wanging Was an event at a local church fete a few years ago. Hence, from experience;- 10% will go backwards [some at a great rate of knots] 5% will go straight up [and down again] 30% will go off to one side or another [in our case, into peoples back gardens that bordered the grounds] and the remaining 45% will spread themselves all over the designated 'landing'area [ranges were 5m (kids) to 50m (People who took it too seriously)] Lots of near misses with the welly collectors. Enjoy [and have plenty of spare wellies]

I remember advising the MD that the two guard dogs he kept on site around the Staines area were posing a significant risk of bite injury to the office staff as they vacated their vehicles to access the office and vice verca. His response was 'the dogs aren't bothered with staff, just intruders!' Two weeks or so later the MD suffered a nasty bite from one of the dogs leaving his office! Ruff justice me thinks....I tried not to scoff!!

Was in the Press last week about some bizarre requests put to councils under the freedom of information Act. the one that tickled me was a request to Wigan Met Council on what measures they had in place to deal with a 'Dragon attack'...Magic!
