I am just re-writing some guidance relating to accident reporting and the retention of records. This is a fairly new post for me and unlike in previous jobs I now see accident reports for adults with special needs.

I know that we need to keep accident reports for a minimum of 3 years and for children until they reach the age of 21. I was asked whether there was any difference if the report related to an adult with special needs. I think the answer is no (i.e. no difference) but I would like confirmation of this from another safety professional please!

You will need to retain records in the same way as able bodied peoples records but one thing you will need to ensure was the risk assessment adequate or did this contribute to the accident.
