Following a near miss incident recently it has come to light that the some operators of glass recycling sites are not aware of the requirement to have bottle banks serviced. I am referring to the type lifted by a crane (HIAB). The cable locking mechanism failed during a lift causing the bottle bank to empty while in the air. My question is does anyone have similar experiences of failing mechanisms and/or do you have a service agreement in place with suppliers of this equipment. I would be interested in your thoughts

Problems like this with such kit is not new - break failures on similar but more mobile kit is rife and I would bet that every business in this area does know that they should maintain but they chose not to in many cases

The ones that I deal with do have maintenance agreements with various suppliers and kit is checked etc. on a regular basis noting that there is a cost involved
