Afternoon all, I am just wondering where you all go to get enviro information (just in general), since the EA website has merged with gov.uk I really dont think its very useful (or perhaps I am not using it correctly), and I cannot seem to locate Enviro legislation either (updates). Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance.

I have to agree with you, it seems to have been dumbed down and is aimed more at "domestic" users rather than professionals. I use IEMA or the EEF who we have a subscription with, but neither compare to the information that was freely and easily available on the EA site

I usually refer to the EA site because the SEPA site (I am North of the Border) is so bad!

Not any more you don't, the Government have made improvements to the site and the old EA site is only good for Public waste registers. For Scotland you can look at Netregs. Dumbed down is an understatement. Who in their right mind when changing an Environmental web site would think that people would not be interested in new and upcoming legislation changes. The Legislation web site is only good if you know what to look up in the first place. So I'm guessing paid for services are the only way to go (especially if you have ISO14001). This will please the MD, when I tell him. Can't wait for the Gov makeover of the HSE site ! Perhaps we should start copying useful information before that becomes FUBAR. Chris

In my personal view everything is becoming a money making exercise and quality has gone out of the door and it will never (I believe) ever come back. everything is linked to either gov money making areas or private money making areas that also have link to the gov where the gov gets a share - the days of good and free advice is long gone I am a member of IEMA and similar hence i get most of my up to date enviro info from those sources and note that being an environmental specialist is just as time consuming as being a specialist in other areas and even more so in many cases so my friend you will have to pay for things in the future as well as for good H S & Fire advice The above said we in this area have given to much away for free for too long as I have argued for a very long time

Thank god its not just me then! I am a member of IEMA, and am doing one of their courses on line, but I still really like the EA site

I make use of my IEMA membership & read their monthly magazine for legislation updates etc. If i need any further indepth information, i'm afraid its the paid subscription services to find the information that used to be freely (and easily) availbale on netregs.

quote=Salis]I find this link helps http://www.legislation.g...uk/all?theme=environment
How did you set the theme when in the Legislation.gov.uk web site. I can do it via Google, but not actually in the web site itself (spent some time with the advanced search). I didn't know you could narrow it down by theme so thanks for the info. Is there anywhere were the proposed / forthcoming Env legislation is listed ? Is IEMA membership for those that mentioned it worth it just for keeping up to date with changes. Is the magazine just it or is there a discussion forum just like this one for its members ? Is there a members only part that list and reviews new and proposed legislation ? I could have become a member many moons ago but was not certain it was worth it (not sure they would let me join now as my IEMA Env Management Cert is quite old). Thanks for any help Chris

Hi Chris, Try environmentalistonline.com. Some areas of the site are restricted to members, however there is a handy "new regulations" section on the front page to pick up dates/titles. Your existing IEMA cert should be sufficent to gain membership should you wish. IEMA do operate a members only LinkedIn forum which is quite active.

I feel I need to defend SEPA website - though admit it can be difficult to find things at first. I phoned them and said I was having problems locating the regs and they gave me step by step instructions as to where it was. It was then clear - after the mud had cleared!

Yes, the EA website was always a bit of a nightmare to find stuff on; even my EA Compliance Officer would agree and she always said she just Googled stuff to find it on the EA website that way! But it's much harder now as you say. As other respondents have mentioned, IEMA is a reasonable source, and the SEPA website is good. Some of the paid for subscription stuff is pretty poor; for example Barbour trumpet a lot of stuff but actually their environmental sections are really poor, especially for new legislation, which is where you really need the help, obviously! I queried them about this about 2 years ago, and they had to agree, jokingly asking me if I'd like a job as I seemed to know more about the subject at hand than they did.

I am a member of IEMA, and use their info, but I found the EA really useful link. Outsourcing is not an option at present. So I will just hope what I have is enough.
