I know that vehicles and pedestrians need to be kept separate were practicable but was wondering in any of you have ever used or know of an 'ergonomist' or company who actually plan this at your place of work?

No, not so sure an ergonomics type person would get involved with traffic/pedestrian planning.
In my experience they get more involved with design of a more personal nature - if that doesn't sound too odd.
I get involved in planning and layout design decisions for industrial plant - which includes the consideration of traffic routes etc.
Happy to discuss & provide a quote, if you want?
