Anybody ever come across plastic smoke seals similar to fins on door edges,that fit into recess where the door butts up to...... Or are they draught excluders / noise reducing strips
I have searched on line but can't find them. T he ones I saw in a listed building look like they do the job but do they?

Sounds like your talking about intumescent strips, they are a protective device that expand when in contact with heat to restrict the spread of smoke and fire in a burning building. They sit in a recess around the door frame (exluding the floor part). As far as Im aware they only serve this purpose. However the brush type fittings should reduce draughts etc?

Nope they are not strips, they are more like the fins that some companies use instead of brushes, they are fitted in to the recess where the door shuts up to.

These are 'dry' ambient smoke seals from what you describe.
