I was just walking around the site trying to gauge fire safety to enable me to review the fire risk assessment and it seems that the supplier of the fire extinguishers have convinced the company that they have to have 3 types of extinguisher at every fire door plus others around the site. It is only a small site and so far I have come across 73 extinguishers.

I would of opted for 1 at a fire door although I don't really like them at that point as someone might decide to go back to try and put the fire out when they are so close to safety.

What's anyone else's thoughts. I know about 'it depends on the risk assessment. The work place in the main is a warehouse that distributes vehicle parts. With a small office block.

The number of fire extinguishers required (if memory is correct) is given in BS5306 - can't remember which part.

There is a forumla to work out the numbe required. I guess a bit of research on the t'internet will get you the informaion required.

The figure of 200m^2 comes to mind, I think that is the area covered by a 'normal' water fire extinguisher.

Ian,

yes it is 200m2 metres for water but I should have said in the warehouse area they have 4 fire doors at least.

Dear lord thats a lot of extinguisers to be inspection weekly. Perhaps contact the provider and ask for their reasoning, I cannot personally see why you would require that many
