I am trying to find out whether there are any guidelines concerning how much workspace a person needs whilst working in a motor vehicle workshop. I am basing my current calculations on 11 cubic metres but realise this may need to change based on the level of equipment in the workshop.
Has anyone prepared a calculation?

May I as why you are enquiring about this.
I have been in loads of vehicle workshops, and although a few have been a bit tight for space I have never experienced anything near space less that 11 cubic meters per person within the workshop itself.

A lot of it will come down to the ergonomics of the workspace, equipment availability and the space required to carry out the tasks safely etc. You want to read up a bit on this subject.

There is not going to be any guidance (IMHO), it will all be down to the tasks they do and those of the person who is expected to work adjacent to them. There is some guidance for vehicle workshops HSG261. I don't think it has any guidance on space, but may give some pointers to work it out.
